ABSTRACT

The design of Fibre Reinforced Concrete (FRC) structures is often made adopting the indication of FIB Model Code. The Model code is considered as a reference documents in guidelines for tunnels. To classify and characterize the FRC in tension, FIB Model Code suggest using the EN 14651 bending test. This beam geometry is suitable to cast (poured) concrete. Recently the interest on sprayed fibre reinforced concrete for permanent application is increasing. Design of temporary sprayed FRC lining is usually made considering the energy values given by EN 14488-5 tests. To design permanent structures made with sprayed fibre reinforced concrete, it is necessary to make a material characterization. To fulfil this need, EFNARC prepared a document suggesting the use of bending tests on panel having the same geometry of EN 14488-5 (600x600x100mm) and proposing a correlation between the EFNARC bending test and EN 14651 bending test.
