ABSTRACT

It has been confirmed that the behavior of tunnel face extrusion of a fragile ground can be captured by the measurement of a cutting face using a laser rangefinder, and there is a possibility to anticipate the rock falling events or collapse of the cutting face. Using this prediction technology, the authors have developed a new system named “Face Condition Viewer”, which is a tunnel face visualization system, that uses augmented reality (AR) technology to generate warnings by directly marking on the tunnel face through monitoring of the extrusion behavior in real-time. It also displays real-time images and displacements of the tunnel face on a terminal equipment such as PCs and wearable terminals. By grasping the real-time displacement state of the tunnel face, it is possible to prompt evacuation instructions or warn the workers about any possible danger present in the vicinity of the tunnel face, thereby improving their safety.
