ABSTRACT

The Genoa Motorway Bypass is the new road system that connects the motorways going towards Genoa from Lombardy and Piedmont with the motorway going west and the motorway going east. Within this project, a fundamental role is played by the intersection at Voltri, connecting the Bypass to the existing motorways via a complex system of underground junctions, inserted into an environmental context potentially containing asbestos and subject to landscape protection constraints. The document describes the methods and criteria that were adopted and the technologies that were identified to control the asbestos risk during the excavation stages, in order to contain the fibres that might be released, confine the material produced during excavation and treat the site water before returning it to hydrographic system. The Bypass was properly inserted in the local context identifying morphological configurations consistent with that territory and studying specific materials and architectural characteristics for the final layout.
