ABSTRACT

Construction of great underground infrastructures and specifically European alpine base tunnels entails a complex, articulated and multidisciplinary setting out of the construction sites, which need to be managed at industrial level in order to meet established time and technical targets. Brenner Base Tunnel represents, in terms of complexity and extension, one of the most significant underground works under construction worldwide. Being a long deep tunnel in rock, the project features high management and environmental complexities. These constraints require detailed analysis and proper system design for successful construction delivery. The temporary joint venture formed by Astaldi-Ghella-Pac-Cogeis was awarded Mules 2–3 construction lot, also based on the improvements proposed during tender phase.
