ABSTRACT

A comprehensive baseline building condition survey and periodical monitoring program are being carried out in the areas along the entire Head Race Tunnel and Link Tunnel traces to monitor the present and future status of structures due to tunneling within the stipulated area in Uma Oya Multipurpose Development Project. Further, the variation of surface water resources in major streams should be monitored by establishing V-notches or similar and also monitoring of ground water level in domestic wells, deep wells and other surface water sources of minor streams. Information collected from such monitoring are submitted to assess the impact of water ingress into the tunnel and surface settlement due to tunneling which affect the natives’ buildings and surface water resources. This paper tries to describe the monitoring procedure and results.
