ABSTRACT

Risk management includes all the processes concerning the risks’ identification, analysis, planning, monitoring and control of a project, with the objectives to decrease the probability and impact of negative events. Risk management is an iterative process to be implemented throughout the project’s life, involving all the relevant team members and the main stakeholders to consolidate a set of risks impacting on cost, scope, time and quality.

This paper describes the procedure applied in the project of line 6 of Naples’ underground, where the TBM tunnel was implemented in a high-risk urban area and focuses on the geotechnical monitoring system realized to mitigate the risks and execute the works in safety.

The authors describe the action plan implemented when the event of risk occurred, the stakeholders involved, the decisional flow, the execution phase, the monitoring and controlling stage and the overcoming of the risk, considering the related economic project constraints.
