ABSTRACT
This chapter examines the motivations for this edited collection, including the anxiety and pitfalls experienced by researchers in the field, which can involve balancing competing interests as well as practical and ethical matters. In this chapter, I also overview the ways in which youth is framed as a socially constructed category and engage with the ways in which youth scholars have challenged this in their quest to explore young people’s lives and experience. Finally, this chapter overviews each of the five themes, presented under the following subjects: conceptualising young people, the digital, consent and ethics, voice and participation and unexpected tensions.
