ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the possible security threats in an SDN-based IoT environment and the role of Software-Defined Networking (SDN) in improving the security of the information system through emerging solutions. A number of solutions have been proposed in the literature to mitigate the security vulnerabilities and attacks, and to exploit the idea of SDN in order to enhance the security of the IoT networks. The framework consists of five layers-Terminal devices or IoT objects, Networking or Transmission technologies, Business services, IoT and SDN applications, and End users. In a user-centric architecture has been proposed which ensures data transmission in a secure manner and allows for the dynamic enhancement of transmission security based on the user's requests. In this chapter, the role of SDN in preserving the security of IoT environment has been described. An analysis has been done on the security issues in SDN-based IoT environment and existing countermeasures.
