ABSTRACT
Autofrettage is a process of inducing beneficial residual stresses in a pressure vessel by means of plastic deformation. Plastic deformation can be introduced by hydraulic pressure, thermal gradient, explosion, rotation, or by pushing a mandrel through the bore. Each method of autofrettage has its own pros and cons.
