ABSTRACT

The process of assessing the structures can be classified into two stages: the first one is the initial assessment of the building and is used to define the problem and develop the plan for a detailed evaluation of the structure to be carried out by visual inspection. The second step is to perform nondestructive testing and start evaluation calculation step. The visual inspection is usually performed by eye with the experience of the inspector so it depends mainly on the capability of the fitness of the inspector in addition to his long experience on welding. Normally, the main cause of deterioration in the reinforced concrete structure in oil and gas facilities is due to corrosion. Proper form design and adequate vibration, provision of sufficient time interval between the placement of concrete in slabs and beam, the use of the lowest possible slump, and an increase in concrete cover will reduce settlement cracking.
