ABSTRACT

This final chapter devoted to rewriting based on the 7Cs of Change provides guidance in the process of checking for consistency and correctness. Consistency includes consistency of ideas, which may have changed during the course of writing, as well as eliminating ambiguity. In the section on correctness, specific attention is given to words commonly misused in science and engineering, including those that sound similar or are linguistically related. Prepositions and articles, which pose particular problems for Asian writers, are also addressed, including a new scheme for determining which article to use with a given noun phrase. Differences between American, British, and other variants of English are also addressed, with emphasis on those that may cause problems in science and engineering writing. The final section discusses the last of the 7Cs, the important skill of collaboration, and how to use it effectively throughout the revision process.
