ABSTRACT

There are a large number of diseases that are imaged and treated in the current scenario by using a novel approach based on nanotechnology, also called as “nanomedicines.” Nanomedicines are basically various nanocarrier systems combined with either a therapeutic agent or an imaging agent implemented for treatment and diagnosis purpose respectively. Currently, nanomedicines have been explored for various abnormalities of the body like cancer, infections, and cardiovascular disorders. There are various pharmacotherapeutic agents that have been employed successfully for the elimination of cardiovascular disorders like thrombosis, atherosclerosis, and myocardial infarction (MI). However, these agents may show deleterious 198effects in the body of the patient after administration at a dose required to produce desired pharmacological effects. Therefore, various nanomedicines like liposomes, nanoparticles (NPs), dendrimers, and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been investigated by scientists to minimize these drawbacks and high mortality rates due to cardiovascular disorders. The present chapter will provide information about recent developments in the field of nanomedicine envisaged to effectively eradicate cardiovascular disorders like thrombosis, atherosclerosis, and MI.
