ABSTRACT

The word “biodiversity” is a synonym for biodiversity around us, i.e., in biological systems the sum of the total of life forms at all levels of organization. The Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011–2020 is accepted and designated the period 2011–2020 by the United Nations. The amount of genetic variation within a species that providing phenotypic variation due to the variation in the nucleotides, genes, chromosomes within and among populations of the same species is termed as genetic biodiversity. The value of biodiversity can be separated into two categories: anthropocentric and ethical values. Direct and indirect economic benefits to humans that include the services of ecosystems, regulations on climate by biodiversity, generation of moisture and oxygen by plants and animals, detoxification of wastes by organisms and aesthetic and recreational benefits are considered as anthropocentric value. Biodiversity development underpins the environment, and human well-being needs, in terms of economic development, social development and environmental protection.
