ABSTRACT

Nanocomposites are the materials that are made up of two materials of which one is in the form of sheets, fibers or particles, and other is matrix phase. A polymer composite is a combination of polymer (matrix) and filler (reinforcement). The additives can be one-dimensional (nanotubes and fibers), two-dimensional (layered materials like clay) or three-dimensional (spherical particles). Polymeric nanocomposites are attracting researchers in light of its extraordinary properties gaining considerable attention both in academia and in industries, due to their outstanding mechanical properties such as lightweight, high elastic stiffness, high durability, corrosion resistance, and strength. These materials have a big potential for applications in the automotive, aerospace industry as well as in the biotechnological field. Various methods of synthesis and fabrication of polynanocomposites are discussed in this chapter
