ABSTRACT

Chapter 10 explains the system requirements state discussing the perennial problem of poor requirements, the grammar and structure of a requirement and converting the customer’s needs to requirements. The chapter next provides a template for a good imperative construction statement, the requirements for writing requirements, examples of the various types of defects in a requirement statement and examples of typical bad and questionable requirements. The chapter also introduces the concept of direct and indirect stakeholders in addition to internal and external stakeholders and provides two abbreviated case studies as examples of smartening up how requirements are produced.
