ABSTRACT

Chapter 10 synthesizes the main findings of the theoretical and empirical chapters. The chapter argues that despite the achievements of some capital cities in specific areas, capital cities in general are not doing enough to take advantage of their hub functions. The chapter shows where the book’s initial hypothesis works well, and what its limitations are, drawing on the rich case study material presented in the book. The chapter describes a number of areas for further research in the growing literature on capital cities and how this literature can add to our understanding of successfully promoting sustainability.
