ABSTRACT

The shift in the centre of gravity to Asia means that the continent will be a dominant force in the world’s hospitality industry for many years to come as its people accumulate more wealth and the middle class keeps growing. Its unique culture makes it far easier for Asians to offer hospitality in a more natural and sincere way because the values have been embedded in them since they were young. Asia also benefits from its low-cost advantage and so travelling within the region is cheaper than going to Europe or North America. However, costs have been going up as is natural, especially that Asia is a popular tourist destination and labour is no longer cheap so the industry cannot always leverage on labour costs only. But Asia’s long history and rich and varied culture will always make it an attractive option for tourists wanting a unique experience.
