ABSTRACT

The drama and antagonism of geopolitics dates back to the post-war period after 1945, when several researchers related and limited the concept of geopolitics to a militaristic view linked with the German Geopolitik and the concept of the politically and militarily dominated space of Lebensraum. Geopolitical Studies became limited to military academies and staff colleges, with only occasional aspects coming to the surface in publications, but even in the cases, very few contributed new literature or analyses to the public debate. Connecting the idea of organized crime factions operating with national policies in a way that such criminal organizations can be used as tool to achieve geopolitical and strategic objectives without sounding like a conspiracy theorist is very difficult. Due to different access to various natural resources, many countries developed particular means to address the management of its own geopolitical sphere by using the tools at its disposal to achieve such objectives.
