ABSTRACT

This paper makes use of results obtained from several creep and shrinkage prediction models as well as finite element analysis with the objective of better predicting the shrinkage and creep behavior of lightweight foamed concrete samples. Theoretical prediction models such as RILEM Model B3, EN 1992-1-1 and Model Code 2010 are used in conjunction with results obtained from Diana FEA software in order to develop a more accurate creep and shrinkage prediction model geared specifically towards lightweight foamed concrete. The theoretical samples in question are varied by accounting for different admixture properties as well as varying densities attributed to the percentage inclusion of a pre-formed protein-based foam. The primary objective of this paper is to compare model code results to those obtained with FEA and determine their applicability to LWFC specifically and provide factors to improve their accuracy if need be.
