ABSTRACT

This chapter argues that the transfer of knowledge systems may be formulated quite generally in terms of notions of region and environment. It discusses the problem of transfer in highly abstract terms so as to give it the requisite level of generality providing a link to General Systems' field. Expert systems are technological, engineering devices which are designed to act as an expert, with respect only to the experts’ relevant expertise. The necessary functional components of which an Expert System is composed are: content system; form system; and realization system. The modes of the utilization are the modes in which the system is collectively utilised so that the net result is the expert system in its interaction with a single or multiple environments. The task of Multi-Environmental expert system construction is inextricably bound up with the enterprise of Knowledge Engineering.
