Introduction

This chapter assesses the contributions made by each chapter. It notes the historical background in many of these Southeast Asian countries, such as colonialism and the Cold War, that could have shaped the identity strategies of the China scholars in the region. In addition, it discusses the relevance of the diverse methodologies (biographical, bibliographical, historical) employed in the book.
