ABSTRACT

This chapter is a bibliographic essay that looks into the publications related to China in the Malay language. It is found that first, China knowledge in the Malay world is still generally and relatively at the preliminary stage, with very few research-based monographs. Second, overwhelmingly a large number of the Malay-writing scholars on China are not professional Sinologists or China specialists. A lot of them remain generalists where “China” is only a part of their interests and attention. Third, many Malay scholars still cannot access the Chinese language.
