ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the international legal framework that inhibits progressive reform of the food system. An outline of international treaties, which are often administered under the purview of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and regional administrations of food regulation, are introduced. To put these international considerations of food regulation into a sustainability and succulence context, this chapter examines where current laws overlook opportunities for a restoration of food integrity. Additionally, the emerging potential for plant-based foods, with examples of opportunities and challenges from the US and the European Union, cater to the appreciative inquiry and integral approaches applied in the book.
