ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book describes how consultations can actually be manipulated against the interests of local communities and eventually permits their relocation in cases of gas extraction in Mozambique. It explores the willingness of low-impact communities in the UK to base their decisions on direct democracy. The book suggests that efforts must be made to mobilize situated strategies and tactics that reflect the cultural values of different communities so that they all feel represented. It discusses the environmental movement to forge alliances and attack the very neoliberal policies that create new divisions or intensify already existent ones. The book shows that a movement should achieve the return of collective power back to communities in order to allow for greater self-determination of local people.
