Health impact of extreme temperature and heat island effect on mortality

Mortality is regarded as the most definite health impact of any climate event. This chapter discusses the impact of temperature on mortality. It summarises and describes a number of published studies by the author’s research team related to the impact of temperature on mortality outcomes in the study context. The impact of the heat island effect on mortality in Hong Kong, a subtropical city, is described.
