ABSTRACT

The mission to situate the displacement of the KPs in comparative perspective continues with an exploration of those who remain displaced from Abkhazia and South Ossetia regions of Georgia, the areas that became the target of secessionist influence. In the early 1990s, the call for secession from Georgia in these two autonomous regions triggered the displacement of ethnic Georgians to other parts of Georgia. Subsequent conflict in 2008 left the de facto authorities in the two regions in complete control of these territories. The armed conflicts remain unresolved and more than 200,000 people remain displaced. Dugan's Nested Model is used once again to decipher the overlapping challenges of these Georgian families.
