ABSTRACT
As soon as one starts writing, ideas begin to age. Like all scholarship that seeks to develop a set of ideas in the form of a book, the ideas in edited books can be more susceptible to this aging process. The task of this coda is to assure you, gentle reader, that this collection has not only got better with age, but it contributes to contemporary concerns in our field. It starts by looking at professional ideologies in relation to the publication of area-studies collections. It then then moves to recent conceptual developments as they relate to scalar shifters, chronotopes, and the terminological flurry of work looking at translingualism, before outlining some of the methodological implications of this collections for sociolinguistic inquiry.
