ABSTRACT

This chapter is an ode to the teaching and educational justice contributions of John Russell Rickford. Building from the author’s experiences as a graduate student and teaching assistant in Rickford’s classes, the chapter shows the ways Rickford’s scholarship on linguistic and educational equity was mirrored in the ways he mentored graduate and undergraduate students into the work of critical educational linguistics. Further, the chapter shows the ways these twin influences of scholarship and pedagogy have rippled outward into the teaching, learning, and research of a generation of scholars engaged in research and practice for Black linguistic justice in K-12 schools and beyond.
