ABSTRACT

This work’s final chapter turns to the future of political humor. What might the comedians do during the remaining years of the Trump presidency? How might the political comedy of the 2020 presidential campaign be shaped by the experience of comedians during the Trump presidency? Finally, how might the comedic treatment of Trump shape political humor as it addresses subsequent presidents? In this chapter, we examine the growing linkages of politics and humor and consider whether Trump’s own success as a celebrity and entertainer turned president may pave the way for future celebrity candidates, perhaps even among the comedians who find so much to mock in the Trump presidency.
