ABSTRACT

Equivalency Education Program is a non-formal education access for those who never get formal education or had been dropped out from formal school because of several reasons. The result of this equivalency education program has the same value with the formal one. This research studies the implementation of equivalency education program. Specifically, this research is to analyze: 1) How the learning process of equivalency education program in adulthood is, and 2) How the impact of equivalency education program to the change of participant awareness and behavior is. This research uses descriptive qualitative approach. Location of this research is at equivalency education program, organized by PKBM in Bandung City. Subjects and Informants are the participants, managers, and tutors. The results of this research are: 1) The learning process of equivalency education program includes planning, implementation, and evaluation. 2) The impact of equivalency education program to the change of participants is shown on their self-knowledge, social aspect, activities of daily living aspect, and economic aspect. The conclusion of this research is the significance of non-formal education in equivalency education program not only for academic with flexible and low-cost curriculum qualification, but also the change of self-awareness, social problems, and daily life. Nowadays with social life gap, this kind of participation is important for social fairness.
