ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines why the diversity and inclusion agenda is important for organisations in terms of securing a sustainable future, but specifically those in real estate and construction, where the war for talent has been identified as a key issue through the RICS Futures research into the battle to attract and retain those with the right skills in this key sector at a time of increasing global demand and competition from other sectors. It briefly examines the rationale for the protected characteristics in D&I and considers the role of professional organisations, such as the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, in this key topic. Alongside the professional organisations, it also looks at a wider group of stakeholders who have a key role to play in supporting the D&I agenda.
