ABSTRACT
This chapter examines fish in the works of Victorian Anglo-Jewish authors Benjamin Farjeon (1838–1903) and Israel Zangwill (1864–1926). It looks at examples from Farjeon’s Solomon Isaacs (1877) and Zangwill’s Children of the Ghetto (1892) and argues that in these novels, fish symbolizes the continued survival of the Jewish people.
