ABSTRACT

Along with the United States, France and other countries that saw pioneer aviators become manufacturers was the United Kingdom. In this chapter, some of the early aviation pioneers in the United Kingdom are discussed, along with their role in forming some of the world’s most important aerospace companies. The individuals looked at in this chapter were amongst the most important of the earliest flyers in the United Kingdom, and all went on to establish aviation manufacturing companies prior to World War I and create substantial industrial enterprises. In each case, they remained in the industry into the post-World War II period.
