ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book addresses the specific issue of motivation that are lacking in kids. It also focuses on eight major myths of motivation. The book provides practical information and stories that help parents understand how to handle a variety of situations. There are two main types of motivations: extrinsic motivation and intrinsic motivation. Extrinsic motivation includes all the outside ways we try to influence a student, such as rewards, prizes, or grades. With extrinsic rewards, we can get temporary results, but for long-term impact, we need to help students activate their intrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation is that which comes from within kids. It is internal as opposed to external. The book contains classroom connections with suggestions for questions to ask their kid’s teacher and ideas the parents might share with the teacher.
