ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on competition, grading and homework in schools. Competition is interwoven into our lives and the lives of our kids. Children who engage in competition earn critical social skills through interacting with other children, while also learning the value of hard work and developing self-esteem and self-efficacy. When it comes to competition, the key word is balance. One of the most important actions parents can take is to communicate with their son’s or daughter’s teacher about grading. Most schools provide technology-based options for communicating with their son’s or daughter’s teacher. Parent-teacher conferences are one of the most typical ways to communicate with teachers. Homework is a part of most of the classrooms. One of parents' most important tasks related to homework is to help their kid get organized. The parents should encourage their son or daughter to give 100% at all times.
