ABSTRACT

The medical logoscope takes the form of a slide rule. Down one side there is a reference index of disease categories, and by the side of this may be inserted several sign and symptom strips. Document-copying equipment may be used to produce a record of the pattern shown on the logoscope. The logoscope takes the place of time-consuming sifting through textbooks. The logoscope provides a very valuable sign-post along the diagnostic way for the physician since it has a knowledge of the prima differentia. In many aspects of speech and language new developments are taking place, and the number of differential diagnostic possibilities is increasing rapidly. More speech therapists are placing greater emphasis on initial investigation and for them a logoscope would be a great asset in that it would provide a systematic method of investigation, save treatment time, and probably save the patient’s time.
