ABSTRACT

The outstanding feature in spontaneous speech noted during the first interview was that there was apparently no consistency in the sound changes. The contribution aims to be an unbiased approach to the problem of the diagnosis and treatment of a language disorder hitherto included under the heading “dyslalia”. In the case presented a full description of the language used by the patient is given, for the concern is the dynamic structure of the speaker, the context and the motivation of his speech deviations. Situations in which the speech abnormalities of the patient occurred have been mentioned. It remains to make an attempt to understand the nature of his speech. In disorders of the kind exemplified there are two languages in use, one consisting of words used in the cultural group, the other consisting of a system of individual and personal signs, signals and symbols.
