ABSTRACT

What if we created a safe, supportive and thoughtful environment in which our teachers were free to investigate personalised areas of inquiry? What if our teachers could explore new ideas and new perspectives on the puzzles, big questions and dilemmas they face in their practice that are personally important to them and relevant to all educators? What if our teachers were given time and support to reflect and wonder, both individually and with their fellow colleagues in a fuelling environment such as a Study Group? If we are committed to developing a culture of thinking for our classroom environments, how can we create an authentic culture of thinking for our teachers too? How can we leverage existing and new structures within our schools to develop and enrich this culture? In this picture of practice, we will share our insights into the journey of our teachers over the last decade, where an action research stance has been adopted and placed at the heart of our professional learning culture.
