ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on live events and linear TV streaming since this is where a lot of innovation is being seen. Live event streaming is amazing because nothing beats the ability for an employee to join in with thousands more colleagues the moment an important announcement is made. With TV broadcasters capable of transmitting their signals 24 hours a day across satellite or terrestrial antennas, the challenge has always been to accomplish the same feat across the internet itself. The standard video protocol used by most encoders for a live video stream primarily was, and still is, known as real time messaging protocol. In the context of live streaming, if one encoder is needed to ingest a video signal to convert it to an internet stream, a good architect looks at placing a second encoder nearby to take over in case the first one fails.
