ABSTRACT

Garcia’s efforts were successful to a point, but they were hampered by timing, such as the switch from DOS to Windows, which caused considerable disruption among PC game developers; technical issues, such as the fact that Windows was initially a terrible platform for games; and finally, perhaps an overly cautious and deliberate approach. In any case, most of the company was either unaware of the games division or, at best, indifferent to it. When Fries took over the division, after a distinguished career in the Office divisions, he was told that doing so was career suicide.
