ABSTRACT

In order to study the lection and referencing process, the authors have given priority to four texts which place the translator in front of major strategic choices and have tried to reproduce as much as possible the progressive reorientations and describe alternative translation paths. The Delisle text places the translator under the necessity of determining the several planes of specific language characterizing this referential text and particularly the differences that must be observed between them; and can be used to illustrate some of the 'liberties' thetranslator may take when translating for a specific medium such as a magazine or newspaper. In Kiwi, the translator will have to assess, according to his target audience, to what extent and in what form his readership is prepared to recreate the degrees of ambiguity present in the source text (ST).
