ABSTRACT

Wind is a valuable natural resource which is harvested for generating electricity. Wind energy is a clean, renewable form of energy which supports energy production in rural low-income areas and is akin to a drought-resistant cash crop that has complemented rural income on top of agricultural practices by farmers and ranchers. Countries like the United States and Germany have successfully made use of wind power to complement the electricity production. However, wind power is intermittent and has unequal global distribution. This has given rise to different designs for wind turbines to suit different geographies in both urban and rural settings. The following chapter describes the fundamentals of wind, its distribution and analysis, power generation capacity, and its impacts and implications.
