ABSTRACT

Water occurs as surface water and groundwater. Contamination of water from various sources impact the quality of water and obliterates it for general use. Apart from anthropogenic contamination, water bodies are naturally contaminated too from the minerals in the rocks they are hosted. Water, which is otherwise neutral, is mostly found to carry some acidity or basicity resulting from the contamination. The following chapter evaluates the geological influences on water bodies in similar settings but with different underlying geological materials. It discusses the testing of water to detect such influences and determines the quality of water for specific use in urban society.
