ABSTRACT

This chapter analyses how Herman and Chomsky’s model applies today in modern India, a very different context to the one it was written for in 1988. It explores the rise of digital media in the country and its influence on the general public in setting the agenda for what is important and how it has clearly influenced and altered news flow in modern India. Using the model, it explores how Muslim minorities and other marginalized populations are framed within the media. Are they treated as “worthy victims” of oppression?
