ABSTRACT
This chapter lays out the key agenda for the book. It will begin by first addressing inter-relations between language, memory and remembering, and between individual and collective memories. It will then address the nature of historical and linguistic reconstruction that this volume will engage in, the data types that it will explore, and some details about the English private and public citizens it will address.
