ABSTRACT
This chapter addresses issues regarding reconstructing the past, specifically concerns regarding the creation of contexts for past events, a process that is the reversal of what sociolinguists typically do (which is to address language issues in their present worlds). It also explores the relevance of the microhistorical approach in a historical sociolinguistic endeavor such as this one.
