ABSTRACT

Food animals have been bred to improve their genetics for millennia. Selective breeding programs have resulted in food animals needing less feed and being able to gain weight faster. Breeding programs have also produced animals that are resistant to diseases and have enhanced the quality of meat products. In addition, we can clone food animals with desirable traits. The United States and the European Union have approached the regulation of cloning differently, as regulators in the European Union felt cloning compromised the health of the dams and offspring.
