ABSTRACT

I think that it is important to recap the key elements for creating transformative sessions. Therapists create the conditions for transformational sessions when they are open to the unknown and allow themselves to work unhampered by standardized, rote ways of performing therapy. The best results come when attention is paid to building and maintaining a therapeutic relationship built on respect and feedback. Clients connect more deeply with therapists who are authentic, who possess a healing presence, and who actively encourage positive expectancy for change. Therapists who allow themselves the flexibility to follow their own intuition, freely improvise, and utilize any aspect of a session help to make therapy an alive and dynamic experience which helps in changing clients’ brains and minds. Magic comes when we move away from the pathology laden themes of discourse and move toward empowering, resourceful themes. Viewing client problems and solutions from a nonlinear perspective encourages more creative sessions filled with new possibilities for clients. Designing and implementing new rituals also give clients out of the ordinary magical experiences and helps to break the spell of limiting patterns of interaction.
