ABSTRACT

Human resource (HR) management in colleges and universities encompasses more than just staffing the institution with high-quality employees. Functions such as compensation and benefits, training and development, affirmative action, and employee resource programs are typically housed in the HR office. HR is also an important resource when employees are separating from the institution, whether voluntarily or involuntarily. When trying to decide what the requirements are for the position, it is necessary to consult the position description and review the duties, responsibilities, and competencies. There are at least two distinct levels of screening: the initial screen for qualifications and the advanced screen to determine which applicants progress to the next step of the search. “Employment is a mutual exchange in which employees provide contributions that meet an organization’s expectations in return for inducements that meet the expectations of the job holder”. There are two types of separation from an organization: voluntary and involuntary.
