ABSTRACT

This chapter describes five techniques for engaging agile teams in the results of user experience (UX) research: two techniques for user needs research, and three techniques for usability testing. Jared Spool has pointed out that the most effective development teams have a two-hour dose of exposure to users every six weeks. A user journey map shows the user’s steps from the beginning of the process to the end of the process. The process of affinity diagramming is very similar to the process of creating a user journey map. Some people are confused by the difference between “usability” and “user experience.” There is no shortage of people willing to pass judgment on what they see as the weaknesses of a user interface. In contrast, UX research is based on behavior. Behavior turns out to be remarkably consistent from person to person.
